2 So, he has perked up a bit. He's eating on his own and walking back and forth from the kitchen to the bed and the bathroom to the bed. He's peeing in his box. He is grooming himself and meowing now as well.

I'm happy, but at the same time this happens after e very round of meds they give him then be just kind of deflates, yanno. Maybe this time will be different and it'll stick.

One thing I didn't mention yesterday was the vet commented on the color of his gums and said they weren't as pink as he would like. What does that mean?

glad he is perking up, hope this time he continues to improve i think the gums being pink may have something to do with oxygen levels, but i am not positive... i'd call and ask but i am glad he is doing better and i hope it sticks

Anemia. It will also show up inside the ears (the pink goes away, leaving a grayish color).

Put pet down is no fun. I have done it with sweet dog and wonderful cat. They both had cancer and were in bad shape in very short time. The things you describe is just as our kitty was her last week of her life. When we took her to the vet, he told us she won't improve and it was the best for her to stop the pain. I couldn't watch - it was just the most heartbreaking thing.
