I guess Navy/MC aren't doing away with it. I don't see why it'd spark an issue with people from other branches trying to get on base, though.

If you have an ID that allows you to enter Army and AF bases, then you can get into the bases that require the stickers with just that. If you don't have a Military ID then you can go to the pass office and get a temporary pass.

And here they use the scanners at random.

Yeah. Overseas they don't have stickers because of OPSEC/PERSEC... and they started doing the same in the states. I personally don't want everyone knowing we're a military family when we're out and about and unfortunately in certain areas it CAN cause issues.

We have DBIDS here (and its going to most of the AF base). It's a more accurate way to know who is going off and on because often people have lost access and still have IDs and stickers. They don't scan them every time though at this base like they did in Florida at MacDill or like they do overseas.

Pam had a really hard time getting to my house on base since the airforce doesnt have stickers. How embarrassing for her they turned her away in front of a line of cars. You would think a dependent ID would be enough

Not true. I cannot get on a Navy base (have tried at three of them) without a sticker, even though my husband is Air Force. Yes, you can go to the visitor center and get a visitor pass, but who has time for that? I find it ridiculous to do 100% ID checks and require stickers, but I've said that here before. Hello, it just proves you had a drivers license and insurance the day you got it. Nothing more. My insurance expired two DAYS or something after getting my first sticker.

Anyway, I hate the stickers. I also think they're an PERSEC issue. No one's going to egg our car here, but there have been cases of police hassling military members and their families, and who needs that?

By the way - I don't think the color of the expiration date sticker means anything. My location decal is blue and my expiration sticker is white.

I guess it's a base thing, then. All bases we've ever lived at were ok with just a Mil ID. Here for example they only ask you to get a pass if you don't have a Mil ID.

. All 6 Navy bases I've been on(Bremerton, Bangor, Norfolk, Little Creek, Indian Head and Dahlgren) have required stickers, or when we had a rental car, a pass. They also all do a 100% ID check. I have never gotten onto base without my ID being checked so. I went to Andrews AFB last week without stickers on my new car and was let right in after they scanned my ID. In Japan you had a sticker, it was on the top near the rear view mirror. But even if they did away with it, you still had a big old Y plate that showed you were military. So everyone knew you were military anyways!

As far as the stickers with red and blue, yeah I knew they were enlisted verses officer. I remember 17 years old going onto Pendleton AND El Toro with stickers and just my girlfriends ID. Young 16 year old's batting eye lashes at the guard got ya right in!

It is just weird, like why would one base have white and one yellow. Maybe one is discounted?

Probably just a regional thing. I just thought I would ask, because nothing is ever done the same a second time.

Could it be a seniority thing? Like SNCOs and Field Grade/ Flag Officers? I know some cars have an extra number sticker on top of the expiration date stickers for the special parking spots, but maybe it has to do with that?

It is different for each location here!

For USAFA, you need one military ID, no sticker. For Peterson AFB, you need an ID for each adult in the car, and they scan your military ID. For Ft Carson, you do not even need a military ID anymore, you can get in with your DL and that is it...

None of them require stickers at all.

Not for teh navy. They have special stickers for e7 and above and officers are blue.

Ive noticed at the bases that dont require stickers they have contracted people working the gates. At the places that require stickers its still MPs. Just what I have noticed.

We have both, federal contractors and MA's and we have to have stickers still. Which sucks cause now I can't drive my car off base until I find time to go get new stickers cause they are expired. UGH.

Usafa is all contractors...no stickers...
Peterson is all AF personnel no stickers...
Ft Caraon just fired most of the contractors and has 90% Army MPs at the gate...no stickers...

Yep. However, Ft Lee is hiring the guards as GS employees, but still has the stickers. They will for a while too.

Same here.

Last base didn't require stickers and had both civilians and SF working the gate.

Campbell went to no stickers but here at Hood they do except the installation sticker MUST be removed asap...and trust me they will let you know your not at your old station pretty quick!
