I have a question. When posting pictures online, is it a rule that you have to block out the name, rank, any patches on the uniform of the member? I heard someone tell me that it was, but I'm not for sure who or where I heard this. I read OPSEC and I didn't see it, but I just wanted to make sure in case I missed it. Thanks.

There is no "rule" per se (just pick up a newspaper or magazine and you can see troop pics all the time), but PERSEC does apply. It's generally a good idea to keep personal info safe when posting on the internet. Anything posted on an open forum can be indexed by search engines, archived, whatever. Getting all that info from a picture, and then going through and finding out more details from reading that person's posts wouldn't be hard.

It's also a good idea to ask the person in the photo if they mind having their picture posted on a public web site.

Hope this helps!
